New Moon in Scorpio ~ The fertile darkness (11/1/24)

by | Oct 28, 2024 | Lunar Insight

The New Moon at 9’35 Scorpio is exact on Friday November 1st, 2024 at 8:47am EDT- commencing a new Lunar Cycle that focuses on the depths, the shadows, and the processes of death, rebirth and transformation. The New Moon in Scorpio is Lunar Samhain and Solar Samhain is on November 6th- so we have a tight Lunar/Solar portal of Death and Final Descent (of the Solar Cycle in the Wheel of the Year). Add in the calendar version of Samhain which is October 31st (Halloween) and we have a potent portal spanning the US Presidential Election as well!

The New Moon trines Retrograde Saturn in Pisces- bringing the mastery and maturity of Saturn into focus. Saturn demands we show up, deal with reality and face WHAT IS. With both the New Moon and Saturn in Water Signs- part of what we have to face and deal with is on the emotional, psychological and spiritual levels. Honestly facing emotions, fears, and shadow- with courage, mastery and integrity- is key. What is interesting is that the Full Moon on November 15th coincides with Saturn stationing Direct- so the New Moon trines Saturn while the Full Moon accentuates Saturn at station, doubling down on the Saturn energy that carries us through the entire Lunar Cycle.

Saturn is the Lord of Karma and Father of Time and he is the planet of GET REAL. Saturn in Pisces is an interesting placement because Saturn rules the Root Chakra in Embodied Astrology – connected to being grounded, being in the body, and being here now. Whereas Pisces is connected to the Higher Heart of Compassion and Altruism as well as the Crown Chakra of Spirit. Ultimately we want to have one foot in the material world and one foot in the spiritual world- so we can be the bridge between the two. Yet it’s hard to find grounding and solidity (things Saturn prefers) in etheric, dissolving Pisces. Saturn in Pisces can be about mastery over these realms, but he can also be about fear of the unknown and fear of emotions like grief and sadness.

The only other aspect the New Moon makes is a sesquiquadrate to Retrograde Neptune- also in Pisces. The tense nature of this aspect can exacerbate desires to check out, escape, avoid reality and not face what needs to be faced. We want to be extra aware of using substances, people, things, money, sex or anything else as a means to avoid facing emotions, pain and/or reality. With both Saturn and Neptune in Pisces linking to the New Moon- we do not want to check out but instead check in. Yet some of what we need to check in on can be intense and overwhelming emotionally- thanks to all the Water signs present!

The Rulers of the New Moon are Mars (ancient ruler) and Pluto (modern ruler)- and they both are heading to oppose each other from the Karmic Completion degrees of their respective signs (29 Cancer/Capricorn) on Sunday November 3rd. This is the first of 3 Mars/Pluto oppositions due to Mars’ upcoming Retrograde (exact December 6th)- but this is the ONLY one in Cancer/Capricorn as the other two will be with Mars in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius.

Mars/Pluto can be force versus power- and it most definitely can exacerbate power dynamics with others. Mars in Cancer wants to fight for home, family and country- but he can be emotionally subjective, passive aggressive, and emotionally immature. Pluto is only in Tropical Capricorn for a few more weeks- transiting the Karmic Completion degree of the sign of patriarchy, government, big business and the old paradigm. Pluto enters into Aquarius for good on November 19th- so this Mars/Pluto opposition is bringing up everything and anything unresolved, undigested and/or ignored so we can deal with it once and for all. (To read a lot more about Pluto at 29 Capricorn and the last dying breaths of patriarchal extraction culture- read my blog linked at the bottom of this page)

There is a lovely Grand Water Trine in the New Moon Chart- formed between Mercury in Scorpio, Mars in Cancer and Neptune in Pisces. Add in Pluto and you have a Kite! Grand Water Trines are gifted spiritually, mystically, compassionately and altruistically. Opening lines of communication and coming from compassion and kindness while also being direct and clear is the gift of this Grand Water Trine. It can be dreamy, magical, intuitive and fertile in terms of inspiration incoming as well. The key is you have to be still and quiet to hear the messages- meditation, dream work, and working with oracular arts like tarot and astrology are supportive at this time.

One thing that really stands out in the New Moon Chart for me is the asteroid Kassandra. She is at 29’07 Capricorn- heading to conjunction with Pluto and opposed by Mars (0’02 minutes away from exact). Kassandra was a prophetess who could see into the future and could speak the Truth. There are many versions of her myth and I will tell you the one that resonates the most for me. It is said that Apollo gave her her gift of prophecy- but I believe that was a re-write of an older myth as Apollo only became the God of the Oracle of Delphi after he took over a previous temple ruled by a Goddess. I think her gift came straight from this Ancient Goddess and then Apollo stepped in and took over governing the temple during the patriarchal takeover. When Apollo first saw Kassandra he found her beautiful and wanted to sleep with her. She said no, he got mad- so he cursed her. He told her “you have the gift of prophecy, but no one will believe you”. The rest of her life she sees everything before it happens and tries to warn people and no one listens.

Kassandra in astrology represents having psychic gifts and being able to see into the future- but it also can represent not being listened to and feeling like you are speaking into the Void. Having her at the Karmic Completion degree of Capricorn heading to align with Pluto gives me the imagery of channels and oracles trying to warn people of what is coming and the patriarchal resistance to listening that follows. I personally have Kassandra at the Karmic degree conjunct my Sun. I will say for me I have had to learn when to speak up and when to stay silent- even if I ‘see’ what is going on I have to read the room and discern if anyone actually wants to hear it. Other times I am meant to be the messenger and I have to let go of being heard, validated or listened to. Sometimes what I see and then say is a seed that gets planted that takes 10 years or 10 lifetimes to sprout. I cannot be attached to outcomes or results- I just have to share the message coming through and then let go.  I have also had to learn how to see my own stuff first so that my own blockages are not informing what I channel or share. If I am blind to something in myself there is no way I can clearly share things with others as I cannot see beyond my own blind spots. This is why I do and share Shadow Work! With Kassandra so strong in this very Water New Moon in Scorpio trine Saturn in Pisces and aspecting Neptune in Pisces- we all would do well to PAY ATTENTION TO OUR INTUITION. Pay attention to your dreams, your inner voice, your body’s wisdom and knowing.  Messages and insights are incoming- but we have to have the “eyes to see and the ears to hear”- or we will miss them! This can be a magical New Moon if we use the magic to go deep rather than spiritually bypass or check out ;)

I leave you with the Sabian Symbol and the Star Sparks degree for the New Moon (full text is below). The Sabian Symbol speaks of a fellowship supper reuniting old friends. It’s a degree that speaks to human relationships and community connections. It’s a reminder that we need to work together!

The Star Sparks degree talks about a wart on a human nose turning into a diamond. The degree goes on to talk about inherited energy patterns from the past that are destructive and debilitating. It also goes on to say ‘if we have the guts to take up shadow as our obsessive focus for our lives- this can lead us to a place we would never expect to go’. How on point for a Scorpio New Moon! This degree states that ‘everything here depends upon whether we can stay with ourselves when our own antipathy toward where we are could easily stop us cold’. The key is staying inspired by Truth, driven to be authentic and focused on the quest to confront WHAT IS.

The Star Sparks degree shows that to turn a wart into a diamond we need to come from Love and Vision and stay focused on seeing the Truth no matter what and from that place we become empowered to change or transform things. Use the Scorpio New Moon magic wisely! Go within or go without!

Blessings…

SABIAN SYMBOL
by Dane Rudhyar

PHASE 220 (SCORPIO 10°): A FELLOWSHIP SUPPER REUNITES OLD COMRADES.

KEYNOTE: The overtones of human relationships based on a community of work or experiences.

This symbol pictures the essential nature of the bond that unites individuals who have participated in some common activity. The social feeling of communion, plus all that it engenders, arises after the act performed together. Activity is at the root of consciousness. Activity in common generates social consciousness and cultural patterns which become set in the form of institutions. A group-personality emerges, which displays characteristic features and gives birth to collective emotions and values.

This is the final stage of the forty-fourth five-fold sequence. Wherever the symbol appears, it suggests the importance of establishing or strengthening links with those with whom one has shared, or can share, living experiences. The value of COMRADESHIP is emphasized.

STAR SPARKS
By Elias Lonsdale

Scorpio 10

On a human nose, a wart that turns into a diamond.

You can see right in front of your eyes that we have inherited from every past an energy pattern which is destructive and debilitating. It amounts to working the negative old forms in an extreme measure. And in the face of it, this will be our undoing, just as we fear.

Spirit rewards that which is consistent unto itself, that which follows its connections and its passions wherever they lead. If we have the guts to take up shadow as our obsessive focus for our lives, this can lead us to a place we would never expect to go, since doubt is laming our vision and obscuring the path ahead.

We may turn out to be onto something here, something big. By facing the unfaceable, by perpetually confronting and being bound up with what we don’t like and want to be rid of, we can complete this path, fulfill its destiny, and not just perpetually be at the mercy of its agony and its frustration.

Everything here depends upon whether we can stay with ourselves when our own antipathy toward where we are could easily stop us cold. It’s a matter of what we feel beyond our feelings, what we believe deeper than what we profess, and what we inherit from the past.

It we actually are inspired by truth, driven by the need to be authentic, almost cauterized by the intensity of our quest to confront what is there, the entire project transmutes into its deep core value and becomes an infinite resource of being there for ourselves and our world. It is just a matter of cutting through enough layers and refusing to turn against our own unpopular and ornery style.

The veteran of the karmic battles emerges eventually and always was really sparked by love and vision. Sometimes we can’t let ourselves turn away from the foul evidence of where we’ve gone wrong. Yet with a deep twinkle we support our need to go through every bit of this, even if the passage is severe and grim.
