We have a potent and powerful astrological alignment incoming- Eris aligns with the Mean North Node of Destiny on October 21st and she aligns with the True North Node on November 27th. The Mean North Node conjunction is preceded by Mars triggering it October 4th-5th, the Sun triggering it October 18th, and Mercury triggering it October 18th-19th. Add to this picture the Solar Eclipse on October 14th that is conjunct the South Node and opposite Eris and the North Node- and you can see that this month of October is HUGE!!! Strap on your seatbelt people and prepare for a wild (and potentially LIBERATING) ride!!!
Eris is mostly seen as the Goddess of Discord and Chaos- but there is a lot missing from her myth (which I go into DEEPLY in my 2+ hour Masterclass on Eris which you can find here- https://divineharmony.com/eris-the-guiding-archetype-of-the-21st-century/). One thing I think is particularly important to reclaim about Eris is that the modern etymology interpretation of her name as meaning strife and discord is missing a more ancient archaic meaning of her name that means ‘earnest endeavor’. This more ancient meaning of Eris means to strive, to make an effort, to be sincere and honest as you exert yourself to do something. To strive is to try very hard to do something or make something happen- especially for a long time, during long standing difficulties and/or up against oppressive outside forces. Like the striving of women, indigenous people, LGBT, and more- against patriarchal oppression!
The Greek Poet Hesiod describes two very different Goddesses name Eris in his ‘Works and Days’- “So, after all, there was not one kind of Strife alone, but all over the earth there are two. As for the one, a man would praise her when he came to understand her. But the other is blameworthy, and they are wholly different in nature.” I believe the version of strife that man would praise is the original ancient Eris and the latter one is a patriarchal re-write where due to political and social consciousness changes and the overtaking of matriarchal beliefs by patriarchal beliefs- it was seen as necessary to take very powerful ancient Goddesses and re-write their myths to make them look evil.
Her name is also likely connected to a Greek word meaning ‘to raise, to stir, to excite’ or to activate. She is a CATALYST and you can see this in the main myth people tell of her about not being invited to a wedding party. She gets miffed at this so she shows up uninvited and brings with her a Golden Apple with the words ‘To the fairest’ written on it. She tosses said apple in front of the Goddesses Aphrodite, Athena and Hera- and they begin to ARGUE OVER IT because they each wanted to be the one seen as the most beautiful. This Golden Apple was the catalyst for the Trojan War- and when I first heard this story my first question was ‘Why are Divine Goddesses arguing over who is most beautiful’. It is such a catty, superficial move on their part- and reveals discord and competition between the Goddesses that you do not necessarily see on the surface. Keep in mind this is a patriarchal re-write of older stories of the Goddess- with the intention of making the Goddesses look catty and superficial. But for the purposes of this article- seeing how Eris, even in her modern myth, is a catalyst is important to take note of.
There are two versions of Eris’ birth. One is that she was born of Hera and Zeus- the modern myth tells a story of the eternally battling couple whose toxic relationship is full of infidelity and vindictiveness and very little Love. This is a more modern origin story- the more ancient version is that she is born of Nyx- Night herself- by parthenogenesis. Anytime you hear of a Goddess giving birth by herself with no male assistance- it is a nod to really, really ancient myths of Primordial Goddesses who were the Creatrix of all of existence. Nyx is night and night is connected to the Void- to the Greek Chaos out of which all was born, or the Egyptian Nun that is the Primordial Waters of Creation, or the Hawaiian Po (read this great write up on Po here- https://adamkeawe.com/2017/02/05/po-and-the-kumulipo/). All of these Origin Points were conceived of as feminine- the waters of the womb of creation, the Great Mother that is the Void. So Eris was born from the Void and Source itself- one of the first children of the Primordial Great Mother.
So with all of this in mind what does it mean to have Eris conjunct the North Node of Destiny? We have the Goddess of striving and earnest endeavor aligning with the Node of Destiny and Evolution. We have the fierce feminine born of the Void Herself trying to re-route humanity so we can align with our True Destiny. The South Node in Libra at its worst manifests when we sweep things under the carpet, bury our heads in the sand and refuse to look at the unsavory, ugly Truths about life, relationships, politics, the environment and more. Are we maintaining appearances? Are we keeping the peace and people pleasing so as not to really look at what is behind the curtain? Are we so invested in seeing everything as beautiful and perfect that we paint pretty colors on things to make the facade look good but the deeper Truths are hidden and festering?
The North Node in Aries demands action, agency, and activation. This is not about sitting on the sidelines twiddling our thumbs- it’s about taking a stand for Truth, speaking up, saying NO, setting boundaries and being a Sacred Protector and Defender of all of Life. Ares in his highest expression is not the war-mongering, violent and abusive God of War. In his more ancient myths he was the ONLY GOD who took a stand against rape when his daughter was being accosted. To all the other Gods rape of women was normal (WTF!?!) but he saw this happening, ran to her defense and killed the guy. He also is the only God who has not raped anyone- it is said that all women he slept with actually wanted to (unlike the rest of the male Gods in the Greek/Roman pantheon!). Hmm…!?! Why are all our myths inverted and changed? Why are the myths meant to inspire human conscious (which is what mythology does) all about war, violence, domination, control, rape, killing and pillaging? We need a new mythology if we want to save humanity. And we need it STAT!
With Eris on the North Node we need to RECLAIM HER ANCIENT ORIGINS. She is Joan of Arc ready to stand up for her people. She is Wonder Woman who is powerful and yet feminine and connected to her heart. Warriors for Truth, Warriors who protect and defend innocence and purity are the Warriors we need right now. Eris on the North Node is sounding the Call. Can you hear her? Will you listen? Will you take a stand for Truth and be a Sacred Protector and Defender for all of Life on this Earth?
The Great Dragon asleep in the cave is waking up. Eris has been transiting the 25th degree of Aries (24’01-25’00) since June 2018 and will do so until February 2027. Aries 25 A great dragon asleep in a cave
The dark deep inside seeking to emerge from a spell, from an enchantment, from a curse. The shadows, the beast, the serpent, the dragon of legend and myth stirring, restlessly, pervasively, bringing forth longings and desires previously suppressed and denied.
Secrets and mysteries. Realms within realms. So much to get back in touch with now. A promise to the children of the future to come alive at the appointed times. The inquiries of karma and of destiny. That which cannot be understood, will not conform to convention.
A wildness, a raw primal quality of needing an immense outlet for a huge energy that never had a place here. A desperate drive to let these things emerge, or else feel trapped and stuffed and caught in meaningless retrials of self avoidance at all cost.
An emotional energy of ferocious intensity. So deep. So forbidden. So strange to the modern ways. Called to merge, to tap the depths, to activate the dormant powers for the sake of the whole.
An absolutely extraordinary ability to draw forth what was hidden in each and all. A threshold capacity to elicit confidence and strength and new forces in those who are seeking a further enfoldment beyond the known.
The world’s most fertile energy frequency. Yet often postponed, or held in reserve. Captured by pasts and futures at war with each other. The shadow must be honored if the light is to dawn. All of this is known and sensed with overwhelming force. It will come out. It will come through.
