the new moon at 4’47 gemini is exact on thursday may 25th at 12:44pm PDT- commencing a new lunar cycle that focus on communication, thinking and perception. gemini is a mutable air sign- a sign focused on ideas, connections and keeping things light. gemini is the sign of the twins- and there are often at least 2 (if not more) ideas, thoughts or perspectives that are quite opposite of each other playing out. this is apparent when you look at the new moon chart deeper, darker energies playing out with the venus/pluto square and the new moon opposite black moon lilith.
where gemini likes the surface, pluto/lilith is about the depths. gemini likes things light and airy, pluto/lilith prefer things deep and intense. we often tend to default to one end of the spectrum here- either being too surface with not enough depth OR being too intense and not coming up for air. this new moon is a call to find balance with the twin opposites within us. ‘both light and shadow are the dance of Love’ (rumi) and wholeness requires that we consciously dance with both sides of ourselves!
there are few aspects to this new moon which makes the aspects the new moon does make more potent. the new moon triggers the venus/pluto square which is exact a few hours before the new moon. the sun/moon conjunction semisqaures venus in aries and sesquiquadrates pluto in capricorn. venus in aries is passionate, direct and wants what she wants NOW! pluto in capricorn is deep, penetrating and intense. he seeks toes the shadow in traditions, old paradigms, business, politics, patriarchal consciousness and more. gemini is more resonant with aries which is very in the moment. pluto sees the past and how all that has come before has created what is happening right now. gemini wants none of that and prefers to be in the now- but that can be at the expense of dealing with the past, particularly dealing with any resonsibility we need to take for things of the past in order to show up in the present with more honesety and integrity.
with the new moon conjunct ceres the Great Mother asteroid and opposite black moon lilith- there is a fierce energy present that can express as people arguing over Truth. self righteousness and wars raged over us being right and them being wrong can be exacerbated by this astrology. what is interesting is just days after the new moon pluto, uranus and lilith all aspect ceres (exact saturday)- which shows some unrest and intensity playing out in home/family dynamics, safety/security issues, environmental situations and with Mother Earth in general. the pluto/ceres aspect this week is by degree whereas on may 9th these two aspected by declination. a quick google search informed me that the hanford nuclear plant in washington state had the tunnel collapse on may 9th. i have my eye on this week to see what else may transpire there (pluto rules nuclear power and also shadowy things going on behind the scenes that people are not wanting to be out in the open).
this new moon can be a great one for opening our eyes. seeing what is really going on around us- not from a victim place but from an empowered place of ‘when i see what is i am then in a position to change things’. this is a great new moon to question what we think we know. personally, spiritually, politically, philosophically, collectively. if we think we know it all then we have stopped growing. there’s always more to learn AND there things we think we know that are wrong. if we are not willing to be wrong and question ourselves we will never know the Truth.
the ruler of this lunation is mercury in taurus- an earthy, grounded sign that helps anchor things down (thank Goddess!). yet the aspects are activating to mercury- mercury tensely aspects mars, jupiter, saturn and chiron (triggering the mars/saturn/chiron T square that runs from 5/28 to 6/2). it can be hard to tell what is fact and what is fiction- what is fantasy and what is reality. the gifts of mercury in taurus are being level headed and thoughtful- the shadow is being rigid and adhering to old ideas and beliefs simply out of habit and familiarity. again we need to be willing to question what we think we know right now.
interestingly mercury forms a yod with jupiter and neptune- the two planets of spirituality. a yod is a finger of God (or as i like to say- Goddess) aspect that involves two harmoniously linked planets (mercury and neptune) with tense aspects to a 3rd body (jupiter). mercury/neptune is great for intuition, compassionate communication, being soft and receptive. yet they can also get overly sentimental or stuck in the past. jupiter in libra, an air sign, is seeking balance and perspective. libra’s lesson is to detach from too much emotion and shake free from rigidity so we can really see what is going on- within and without- and from that place make level headed decisions about what to say, what to believe, and what to do.
of course the Grand Fire Trine in the background of the chart is brewing- something this summer is going to see to it’s fruition. we have the north node in leo, saturn in sagittarius on the Galactic Center and uranus conjunct eris in aries all forming an auspicious alignment in the skies. amazing opportunities for healing, awakening, grounding down our new ideas/inspirations, embodying and anchoring in positive change are all incoming. the summer is a time to let your heart and your passions lead you! yet first chiron makes a tense aspect to the north node- exact just days after the new moon- reminding us that we have to face the wounds and pain that sabotage us from stepping more fully into our Light and our brilliance (which is where the north node in leo is leading us). being willing to see where our overblown ego is hiding our hurt and pain OR where our underdeveloped ego is not creating a healthy, clear container is key. we all operate out of our Unconscious conditioning. until we make it conscious it is what is driving the boat. right now there’s deep work to be had by going on, facing what we have spent most of our lives escaping and integrating that which we have fragmented from and as such has kept us from becoming more whole.

What we carry in here is far too much for us. We could never express a fraction of it. We just can’t give it all away fast enough. For it keeps replenishing itself, shows up in yet another form. We are becoming the feature in a splendid multi-level promise, vision and great call. Everything we move through pulls us toward that place beyond. We could go anywhere with this, do anything, be anybody.
When you are big and you see and you know so broadly, what come is a destiny path which partakes in the multiplicity at every point and always proves to be inclusive, all-encompassing, and staggering in it’s reach. You just feel the pulse of the world becoming all through you.
Yet the small ego-structure of the little self in the little world of memory and mind is so dwarfed by this magnitude of awareness and attunement that it almost snaps. How can anybody contain, harness, channel, do justice to this kind of stretch and scope?
Well, nobody can. What is entered upon now, in any given now, is just the first gleaming, the initial vision. It is the grossest approximation. Yet it has to be affirmed and journeyed with freely if it is to be the springboard it is meant to be.
So there is this wide open impulse to become the world, to activate forces of possible futures, to host and to orchestrate. And there is this future form to fit the wide open impulse into it if it can be done.
Each initiation, every probe into the unknown is really into free space. What is sought is connection with whatever has previously been tuned out. And the center thrust is to be awakening across a broad enough band to respond joyously to whatever comes in the infinite bright surround.
This is fresh wonder territory of having room enough to meet all that is breaking loose, just knowing there are no binding limits.
