we are in the dark of the sun, also known as the balsamic phase of the solar cycle. that time got initiated at samhain (when the sun transited 15 degrees of scorpio) and we are now in the last 34 hours of the end of one solar cycle and the start of a new one that commences tomorrow at 8:48pm PST when the winter solstice is exact.
solstice literally means ‘sun stands still’- and during winter solstice the sun rises the latest and stays as low in the sky as it ever does (which can be observed best by looking at the sun at noon). for 3 days the sun will look to stand still in the sky- not moving any lower or higher- until december 25th when the sun will be re-born and will start to climb ever slowly into the sky (until summer solstice when he will be at the highest point in the sky).
since today the next 34 hours are the deepest darkness in the solar cycle- it’s a great time to retreat, reflect, introspect and dream. it’s a great time for divination (tarot, inching, runes, astrology) as well as ritual or ceremony that symbolizes what we are leaving behind from the past and what foundation we are settting for the new that will soon come in.
take time to honor the inward pull today and tomorrow! at a time when there are lots of parties, events, shopping and activity- the inclination of the natural world is to turn within rather than over focus without.
