New Moon in Taurus ~ Receiving from the Ancestral Well (4/27/25)

by | Apr 22, 2025 | Lunar Insight

The New Moon at 7’47 Taurus is exact on Sunday April 27th at 3:31pm EDT- commencing a new Lunar Cycle that is focused on money, finances, abundance, and material reality- as well as our deepest held values, our self worth and self Love.

This New Moon is in a separating square to the Mars/Pluto opposition that was exact the day before the New Moon (in the Dark of the Moon of the previous cycle) and also was triggered by the Sun from April 20th-23rd. It is important to pay attention to what unfolded personally and collectively in the week leading up to the New Moon- especially the 23rd through the 26th as the Sun and Mars triggered Pluto- as insight into what this coming Lunar Cycle holds for you can be incoming. I would also pay close attention to 9am to 10am on Sunday morning (April 27th) as the Moon triggers Mars/Pluto 5-6 hours before the New Moon is exact.

The good news is that the New Moon is making a separating aspect to the Mars/Pluto opposition- if it was approaching it would have a different energy. Separating means that the coming Lunar Cycle is focused on the aftermath of what happened from the 20th-26th and what we need to do as a result of what came up (if it was approaching the New Moon would be the kick off to the start of what is incoming).

This is the 3rd and final Mars/Pluto square- the first was on November 3rd when Mars was 29 Cancer and Pluto at 29 Capricorn. The second was on January 3rd triggering the Leo/Aquarius axis. This 3rd and final one is at 4 Leo/Aquarius- echoing the one that happened just days into 2025- so connect the dots to see what greater story line has unfolded as well as what is calling for resolution right now.

Mars/Pluto tense aspects are notorious for power struggles and intensity. But it can also be about something new being born out of the death of the old. In its Highest expression Mars opposite Pluto is about surrendering the lower egoic self to the Higher Self so that our wills and egos are not running things but are rather in service to something Higher that is guiding us.

I call Pluto the Roto Rooter of the Solar System. He comes into clear out the stuck, stagnant crap that has backed up. He is not fun but he can be cathartic if we are ready to do the inner work and let go. If not it can be power over power under dynamics that force our hand. Some of us run away from turning within- and when Pluto comes calling he can force the process through illness, loss, or other kinds of Plutonian Underworld experiences that make us deal with what we have denied.

Luckily this is the 3rd and final Mars/Pluto opposition- so if you have been doing your Inner Work since October/November- showed up and faced the shadow- this can be a time of resolution and completion. If you avoided it the entire time- then things might be more intense right now :-0

This New Moon semisquares both Jupiter and the North Node- as Jupiter and the Nodes head to square each other on May 15th. Turning Points are on offer! Something new wants to come in and through! When Planets square the Nodes we can find ourselves at a crossroads. Will we keep doing the same old karmic patterns of the past? Or will we move in a new direction? Jupiter can be lucky and benevolent- he can also be excessive and hubristic. He does rule the North Node in Pisces- so if we tune into Higher Wisdom and allow that to lead, we can find doors opening and opportunities presenting themselves.

Mars in Leo can bring the intensity into the sphere of romantic relationships, relationships with children and confrontations with our own egos and narcissism (or lack of healthy ego boundaries that makes us attract our opposite). Pluto in Aquarius can bring things up in friendships, social circles and groups we are a part of. With the New Moon in Taurus the financial world is in focus but this is also about aligning with our deepest held values so we are being guided not by ego and power struggles but by doing what is right and what we know in our heart is the right thing to do.

With Eris quincunx the South Node incoming on April 29th- there is definitely a Discord/Chaos energy afoot. Chaos energy can actually help clear things out that have been stuck and stagnant for so long that they have become the inversion of life force (which is essentially what evil is- evil backwards is live- to live/align with LIFE is the opposite of evil). So along comes Eris to upset the apple cart- not to cause problems just for the sake of it but because the underbelly of something needs to be revealed.

The New Moon is conjunct the fixed star Hamal which means to ‘follow one’s own path’ and Schedir which represents ‘the Queen, and female power)- which for me is a reminder to LISTEN TO YOUR INNER TRUTH and ALIGN WITH YOUR DEEPEST HELD VALUES. The Queen’s feminine power is that of INTUITION. To follow our own path we have to LISTEN to our Inner Voice which is always guiding us if we have the eyes to see and ears to heart.

As Jupiter approaches Bellatrix- which literally means female warrior- and Uranus head to Algol the eye of Medusa which is about female passion and intensity, while Neptune aligns with Kassandra the Prophetess and Seer- we have a ton of feminine power energy to tap into. I would even venture to say it is the feminine that needs to lead (our intuition, our healthy emotions, our body and somatic wisdom)- while the ego, will and mind need to take a back seat and defer to her leadership.

I find the Sabian Symbol for this New Moon fascinating. It references the one before it so I have included the text for both below. The New Moon degree rounds up to the nearest whole degree which is 8 Taurus- and the meaning of this symbol speaks to ‘the value of anticipating and preparing for expectable conditions’. It talks about our ability to foresee and thus prepare for a future situation. And it references the previous symbol entitled “The woman of Samaria at the ancestral well”. The way Dane Rudhyar interprets this symbol is now how I see it. I see the woman of Samaria at the ancestral well evocative of women’s access to the Mother Line heritage- the ancestral well aka the womb, reservoir of wisdom, healing gifts we carry from our ancestors.

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon references the degree preceding it by stating that this woman had the ‘the capacity to receive a revelation of the future state of human evolution” reminding us that “Man should be ready to use past knowledge and skill to meet the demands of a stage yet to come”. With all the intuitive psychic energy in the New Moon chart it seems to me that our intuition and body wisdom need to be listened to as this New Moon can give us messages about ‘what is to come’ and what we need to do to prepare for that in this now moment.

The line that stands out for me in the Woman of Samaria symbol is this: “The creative future descends first to that which has become chaos. An old order is never open to a new Revelation until it has accepted disorder in the name of that Power which subsumes all forms of order, i.e. Love.” As we move to the first of 3 Chiron/Eris conjunctions (exact May 26th/27th PDT/EDT)- we have the Wounded Healer and the Goddess of Discord and Chaos meeting. The creative future descends first to that which has become chaos. We have to accept disorder in the name of that Power (Love) that subsumes all forms of order- in order to birth the new.

As Jung said “In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order”. For me the sensual, earthy nature of this Taurus Lunation reminds us to ground and find our root and anchor- in our body, in our being. To trust our body wisdom and intuition. Amidst the chaos of the Eris/South Node quincunx, the Mars/Pluto opposition, the coming Chiron/Eris conjunction. To find our root, find our center- and from this place allow a new quality of being to come in that renders the old patterns obsolete.

We could boil this entire New Moon chart down to the battle between body (New Moon in Taurus), ego (Mars in Leo) and mind (Pluto in Aquarius). The New Moon reminds us to trust the body and its wisdom- as well as our intuition that is received through the vessel of our body and being. And to have the ego will and mind be the servants. When we do this we are not moving through life trying to overpower others with the force of our will or be in the head so much we are divorced from the body and unable to hear our intuition. This is the sweet spot the Sabian Symbols speak to- this is the place from which we can ‘tap into the ancestral well’ and ‘receive a new revelation’.

Have a blessed New Moon!

SABIAN SYMBOLS
by Dane Rudhyar

NEW MOON DEGREE

PHASE 38 (TAURUS 8°): A SLEIGH ON LAND UNCOVERED BY SNOW.

KEYNOTE: The value of anticipating and preparing for expectable conditions.

Here we have a combination of two factors: “the sleigh,” which is a product of traditional skill (cf. Taurus 6° symbol) and the ability man has to foresee and thus to prepare for a future situation. This ability relates this symbol to the one for Taurus 7°, because the woman from Samaria had ‘the capacity to receive a revelation of the future state of human evolution, though in a different and subconscious sense. Man should be ready to use past knowledge and skill to meet the demands of a stage yet to come.

At this third stage of the eighth five-fold sequence we should realize the value of FUTURE-ORIENTED IMAGINATION but also of relying upon the natural order of unfoldment of all life processes.

THE DEGREE PRECEDING THE NEW MOON

PHASE 37 (TAURUS 7°): THE WOMAN OF SAMARIA AT THE ANCESTRAL WELL.

KEYNOTE: The meeting of the traditional past and of the creative spirit pointing to the future.

The symbol refers to a most important, but usually narrowly interpreted (or interpreted away!) episode of the Christ mythos. Early in his ministry, Jesus meets a Samaritan woman at an ancestral well. This woman belongs to a tribe despised by the Jews; moreover, she is unmarried and therefore on the fringe of even her own society. It is to just that kind of woman that Jesus reveals that he is the Messiah: “I am He,” a revelation that he apparently will not bestow even upon his disciples, at least not in words. (Words in occultism are the creative factor.)

What does this mean? Jesus, as the Avatar incorporating the Christ-Impulse, came to replace the old tribal order with a new order based on universal Love. It is not to representatives of, or even to men still attached to, the old order that Jesus could reveal his spiritual, evolutionary and society-transforming status; they had instead to reach a point where they could discover his avatar-ship – as did Peter just before the Transfiguration scene. But to the woman of Samaria – who, in her openness to love’s urgings, had already repudiated any narrow subservience to the old order – Jesus could reveal his function. The highest meets the lowest when this lowest is free from traditional bonds and open to love. The creative future descends first to that which has become chaos. An old order is never open to a new Revelation until it has accepted disorder in the name of that Power which subsumes all forms of order, i.e. Love.

In this second stage of the five-fold sequence, a contrasting element enters upon the scene. It is no longer a collective-cultural effort based on past knowledge — as in the preceding symbol — but a “meeting” that introduces into the collective situation a totally new factor which transcends it. A NEW QUALITY OF BEING is revealed which renders the old patterns obsolete.
