a new lunar cycle commences on wednesday july 18th at 9:24pm PDT. the dark moon that precedes this new moon is very potent as the moon in cancer activates the t-square formed by mars, uranus and pluto- bringing out very intense emotional energies to be processed and released. ultimately dark moons are times to purge, let go and allow the passing of the old so that the new can come in. with both the dark moon and the new moon in the sign of cancer we are in a death and rebirth process around emotions, our needs for nurturing, safety, security and attachments to the past.
this new moon is potent as it only makes one aspect- a square to saturn in libra. saturn is the great pruner. he comes in and faces you with the cold, hard reality of Truth and he makes you take personal responsibility for it. saturn transits are a time of getting real, paring down, letting go of the past and taking accountability for our part in how we got to where we are today. with the new moon square saturn we have the impulse to initiate and start something tempered by the planet that makes us hedge our bets, double check the fine print and reign it in so that whatever we start right now is anchored on a solid bed of self-mastery and personal responsibility.
with the signs cancer and libra highlighted we can find a huge focus playing out in home, family and romantic relationships. cancer is the sign of the Divine Mother and she governs our home, roots, ancestors and connection the past. libra is the sign of relationship, balance, peace, harmony and connection to others. saturn in libra is teaching us lessons around relationship and how to find balance in give and take, self and other. with the new moon square saturn we need to implement these lessons in all our relationships- with beloveds, fathers, mothers, siblings, children and more.
the sabian symbol for 26-27 cancer, where the sun/moon conjunction is, is ‘a violent storm in a canyon filled with expensive homes’. this image reminds me of the recent fires blazing in colorado. on a symbolic level this image shows the fires of transformation that can ravage our material attachments. things we have spent a long time building (homes, relationships, careers) can be gone in the blink of an eye. the alchemical fire is soley focused on our growth and evolution. the degree to which those pretty, expensive ‘things’ or ‘people’ in our lives are thwarting our growth is the degree to which our path can require we release them for good. and if we don’t release them by choice then a fire may come blazing in our lives and force us to release them.
this new moon can be a great time to tune into the growth and evolutionary path ahead and get on board with the changes being brought in by uranus and pluto. the uranus/pluto square lasts until 2015- so we are not going to be clear of this energy for a while. if we can get clear on what the Universe/our Higher Selves are asking of us and we actually step up and starting doing just that- the journey ahead will be a lot smoother and much more pleasurable. i suggest using this new moon as a reality check and if necessary make some self-adjustments so that the path you are on is heading in the direction you seek.
‘begin as you wish to continue’ is a great mantra for this new moon. anything you begin now should be commenced with wisdom and awareness that consequences of actions taken will manifest and last for a while.
