the new moon in aquarius is exact on thursday january 30th at 1:38pm PST, commencing a new lunar cycle as well as the chinese new year of the wood horse (exact the next day on 1/31). new moons are times to plant seeds, set intentions and commence new things. with the new moon in visionary, forward-thinking aquarius we are supported in shifting, transforming and awakening in certain areas of our lives (to see where this plays out in your personal chart check the weekly horoscopes). we are also supported in starting new alliances with like-minded Souls who have common goals and visions for the future.
this new moon is powerfully aspected by the uranus/pluto square. uranus is the ruler of this lunation (uranus rules aquarius) and is in harmonious aspect to the sun/moon conjunction, supporting our ability to make profound shifts and create powerful openings in our lives. with the breakdown/breakthrough duo aspecting this lunation in harmonious ways, we have the evolutionary energy of both helping us to start new endeavors that are radical and revolutionary!
one arena in which this new moon can support new energy is in the area of relationships. in the new moon chart we have juno, the asteroid Goddess of partnership and marriage, aligned with chiron the wounded healer (this aspect was exact on saturday the 25th)- and we also have stationary set to go direct venus in capricorn aligned with pluto in capricorn. pluto and chiron have been in sextile aspect since spring of 2012 and they are just now at the end of their dance with the last pluto/chiron aspect being on 2/25. this long term aspect is deep, transformative and cathartic. with the lord of the underworld digging up our deepest shadow and the wounded healer digging up our deepest pain we have opportunities to go into the places that scare us to transform and heal all that shadow and pain into Light and consciousness! this astrology is great for therapy, shamanistic journeys, and any of the oracular arts (astrology, tarot, etc…). with juno and venus aligning with these two powerhouse planets- we have this deep cathartic energy permeating our relationships, commitments and financial situations. venus stations direct a day after the new moon (1/31) so venus being stationary and in conjunction with pluto is even more powerful than it would be normally. deep transformative energy is afoot- but we also need to look at the shadow in relationships and beware of manipulation or power/control dynamics coming from ourselves or others. being honest, in our integrity and dealing with what comes up is recommended right now.
the juno/chiron and venus/pluto aspects form a powerful triangle aspect in the chart bringing support for new beginnings in all kinds of relationships- romantic, financial, business and otherwise. the only tense aspect to this lunation is a quincunx to jupiter in cancer- which can be positive in the sense that we are itching to grow and expand, but it can also exacerbate things and cause us to be overly emotional. the new moon in airy aquarius is very detached and heady- so if we are cutting ourselves off from our emotions, then the tense aspect to jupiter can unearth them for us. if on the other hand we tend to be overly emotional and overrun by our feelings- this new moon gives us a chance to step back and get some perspective and perhaps a vision of the Bigger Picture playing out in our lives.
it is interesting to note that stationary venus is conjunct two Dark Goddess asteroids- psyche and persephone. psyche means Soul and her myth is one of separation from Love (eros) and finding her way back. persephone also has a myth of separation- this time from her Mother. both Goddesses had to separate themselves out from people they Loved in order to find themselves before they could come back together. the venus/pluto conjunction is symbolic of the persephone story as it was hades/pluto who abducted persephone and took her down into the underworld. with venus/pluto aligned with psyche and persephone- the opportunities for deep underworld journeys back to our power and our Souls is potent at this time. we may need to separate ourselves from others or from the past so that we can find who we are alone and in the present. from that place we can return back to connections and situations that are right for us and/or leave behind what no longer fits or work in our life.
in addition to the psyche/persephone/underworld them, we also have jupiter, uranus and pluto in T-square formation and venus is joining that configuration by stationing on pluto. breakdowns may precede breakthroughs in relationships, financial situations, commitments and structures in our lives. remember- if anything is falling apart in your life it is likely doing so because it is no longer working the way it is set up and it either needs to be shifted in some way or we need to let it go and make space for something new that wants to come in. as long as you are focused on the door that has closed- you won’t be able to see the one that is opening. so look ahead and only look to the past to reflect, forgive, ask for forgiveness, learn and move forward- ready to release the patterns of the past that no longer serve.
