the lunar eclipse in scorpio is exact on thursday, april 25th at 12:57pm PDT. this commences the triple eclipse portal that we are heading into and that officially began with the new moon in aries on april 10th (that aries new moon kicked of the current lunar cycle we are in that leads us to the first eclipse this week). the next 30 days sees A LOT of astrological activity, making for a potentially powerful, intense and profound period for change, transformation and growth.
lunar eclipses happen at the time of the full moon. full moons coincide with fruition, climax, culmination and sometimes crisis. since eclipses amplify the lunar energy tenfold lunar eclipses are often times of major crisis and illumination of all that is not working and/or of what has to change. this lunar eclipse will be followed by a solar eclipse (5/9) and another lunar eclipese (5/24) so the endings and new beginnings are all tied into each other and it’s hard to really be definitive about what is ending and what is beginning, unless you know your natal chart and can see what is specifically getting activated by each individual eclipse (for more info email me for a reading!). suffice it to say, the coming month is time of major endings and new beginnings and the best thing we can do is stay open to the Highest expression of this unfolding as well as the Highest outcome for all concerned.
what makes this scorpio lunar eclipse so potent is that it is conjunct saturn in scorpio- a planet that makes several oppositions to the taurus planets (venus, sun and mars) in the last 10 days of april. saturn is the planet of mastery, maturity and growing up. he is also the planet of karma, restriction, repression and depression. tense saturn aspects are reminders of the realities in our lives and they force us to deal with reality rather than bury our heads in the sand. with saturn in scorpio the depths and shadow are being accessed- and in opposition to all the taurus planets we are reminded that life goes much deeper than the surface. our attachments to money, safety, security and stability can actually serve as handicaps and convenient parking spaces on the spiritual path. taurus is a very stubborn sign that tends to dig in his heels and refuse to change- often at his own detriment. with the lunar eclipse, saturn and the north node all in scorpio it’s the scorpio area of our chart that is learning big time lessons. there is no escaping it, yet the taurus area (exactly opposite scorpio) is where we are most likely going to try and dig in our heels and resist these lessons. this is not recommended though as the evolutionary forces of the Universe cannot be stopped- and being dragged into our growth versus going voluntarily will definitely change our experience of the upcoming month ;)
to add to the intensity and immensity of this eclipse are the conjunctions of venus and mars to the sun in taurus- all of which are opposite the full moon conjunct saturn. all of these taurus planets are in the midst of opposing karmic saturn and heading into conjunction with the karmic south node. karma being the operative word, we have opportunities to confront our karmic patterns and deal with the consequences of past actions (or inactions as the case may be). the tendency to keep playing out old toxic, stagnant and/or stuck patterns in relationships, finances, our values and in regards to our self-worth is HIGH. it will take a strong motivating force to release these ties that bind us to the past so that we can move forward and grow. luckily the motivating forces within scorpio are about as massive and powerful as they can get!
this lunar eclipse requires, actually demands, that we confront our desire nature. we need to look to see where our desires drive and control us and not the other way around. desires for money, power, sexual intimacy and/or control can come up to be addressed big time. alternatively fears around these same areas of life can also arise. scorpio rules the taboo topics of society- those things in life people are either afraid of/in denial of OR are completely obsessed with. mastering these desires does not mean cutting ourselves off from them- it means going into the depths of them to get beyond them. well known astrologer rob hand says that ‘rather than deny the physical universe in order to transcend it, Scorpio will immerse itself in physicality and even drown in it in order to go beyond it.’ scorpio does not want us to stay on the surface or to transcend/deny/cut ourselves off from our experience. if you give away all your money or become an ascetic it is much easier to steer clear of the addictions to money, power and sex. but what do you do when it’s all around you, being offered to you? what do you do when you are immersed in it? like jesus was tested in the desert by the devil- what do you do when you are offered it all? the scorpio realm is like the eye of the needle- we all come to the scorpio initiation whereby passing through it catapults us to a whole other level of mastery and evolution! many Souls go through this initiation over and over, coming up short or failing the test many times before they finally get it. but get it we must! and this eclipse can help us get there a little faster, perhaps a little further. this eclipse can push us to our edge!
luckily there are some very sweet aspects to this eclipse that support the evolutionary potential inherent in this eclipse portal we are in. the full moon is trine neptune in pisces, bringing in a sweet, mystical energy that supports this deep work and the ability to see beyond the veil to the Truth. in addition the ruler of this lunation is pluto in capricorn and pluto makes a lot of harmonious aspects- to the sun, moon, venus, mars saturn and chiron. pluto ensures that the opportunities for deep and profound Soul transformation will not be missed! all we have to do is confront that part of ourselves that is either obsessed with power/money/sexuality or afraid of power/money/sexuality and then come into a new relationship with it. the Highest expression of scorpio is the alchemist, magician and the tantric adept- so the possibilities for coming into a whole new expression of our Highest potential are powerful right now. the bottom line is that we are required to face very deep things about ourselves- some of which we may have ignored or been in denial of in the past.
the eclipse portal we are at the beginning of takes us into some deep and powerful territory! the first uranus/pluto square of 2013 (and the 3rd of 7 squares that happen through 2015) will happen during this eclipse window- which amplifies the breakdowns and breakthroughs occurring in life for the sole purpose of transformation, evolution and change! in the coming weeks i highly recommend embracing the shadow and the opportunities for change/transformation with the spirit of a warrior. when we are proactive about our own growth the Universe notices and rewards us for our participation ;)
