the full moon in leo is exact on friday, februrary 14th at 3:53pm PST (valentine’s day!)- marking the midway point of the current lunar cycle we are in the began with the powerful and positive new moon in aquarius on 1/30. if you recall, that new moon harmoniously aspected the uranus/pluto square- harnessing the powerful transformational energy present to us all right now on planet earth. it also coincided with imbolc- the festival of spring and new life coming in- as well as the chinese new year of the horse commencing the next day. a lot has happened since then! i don’t know about you but that feels like months ago ;)
the full moon always occurs when the sun is 180 degrees opposite the full moon- pitting the conscious self and ego opposite the Unconscious. it is a time of fruition, climax or crisis- as the Light of the sun shines on the Unconscious and brings all that we have not seen or have not wanted to look at into focus. full moons can be illuminating, but they can also be deeply emotional and chaotic if we have stuff coming up for us to address that we have been trying to repress or avoid.
with the full moon in leo and the sun opposite it in aquarius, we have the energy of the individual versus the collective highlighted. addressing where there may be imbalances in relationships can be a focus- particularly if you feel you have to deny yourself and personal needs to be in certain relationships, or alternatively if you feel you need to deny connection and collaboration with others in order to do your own thing. learning how to be unique and traverse your own path but still be able to connect and relate to others is a lesson right now!
the asteroid Goddess astraea is conjunct the sun and opposite the moon- so we have a focus on justice and unresolved issues that need to be balanced. astrea is said to be the last of the immortal gods to live among humanity during the golden age. she stayed to be a beacon of hope during dark times- but she eventually left earth because our abuse and violence of earth and ourselves became too much for her to bear. astraea involved with this lunation points to a need to look at where we have abandoned ourselves OR abandoned others. where do we need to bring more balance into our lives and relationships? where do we need to find a better balance of give and take, self and other, me and you, yin and yang?
this full moon is HIGLY aspected- by all of the planets except for venus. and the only “positive aspect” is one to mars in libra- all the other aspects are in the red so to speak (tense aspects like squares, oppositions, semisquares, etc…). so the emotional energy is HIGH and likely going to be tumultuous this weekend.
the biggest aspect this lunation makes is a square to saturn- which is actually a T-square formation between the sun/moon opposition and both of them square to saturn in scorpio. saturn is the task master, lord of karma and father of time. when he makes tense aspects he is bringing reality checks and asking us to address things that we may not really want to address. this heavy energy can be karmic, but it can also be a pull towards greater mastery. saturn well integrated leads to success, maturity and wisdom- so opportunities to work towards all 3 are present right now.
the ruler of this lunation is the sun- and the sun is obviously involved with the full moon by opposition. the sun is conjunct retrograde mercury- just about to head into his conjunction with mercury that marks the midway point of the mercury retrograde cycle (exact on saturday the 15th). pay close attention to insights, aha moments, information or communication coming in. clarity around whatever it is that you are pondering or trying to figure out can arise with this conjunction!
one other theme to take note of is the presence of the Dark Goddess in the chart. true black moon lilith is at the 29th degree of cancer- set to move into leo soon. the last degree of any sign is key as it points to a need to complete something in order to move on. asteroid lilith is at 11 leo and contraparallels neptune- and dark moon lilith is conjunct sirius and opposite pluto and the black sun. the dark moon lilith aspect is of particularly significance because she activates the T-square formation of jupiter, uranus and pluto- and also harkens to the Grand Cross formation that will form in april between mars, jupiter, uranus and pluto. paying attention to the deep, shadowy things that are up right now is key. lilith represents the primal, wild, chaotic nature of the feminine. she is fierce, powerful and a force to be reckoned with! looking at where we have our own passions, desires and fierceness and where perhaps we need to embrace more of that or tap into it is key.
last but not least in about 2 weeks time several planets are set to station direct or retrograde! mercury, mars, jupiter, saturn, vesta and ceres will all be stationing in 12-19 days. so we have many planets heading into transitional space- where the veil between the worlds is thin and where their energies are more powerful and able to express, but also more chaotic in nature. with so much planetary energy set to shift- i see this full moon as a prelude to what is coming in. so pay attention, take notes- and embrace it all!
