we are currently in the last hour of the darkest day of the year- with the sun about to move into capricorn at 9:11am PST. this is the dark of the dark, the most inward moment. it is a time to take stock of all that has led you to this now moment, and at the same time get clear on what you need to release in order to make room for new growth and new beginnings just around the corner. today is the winter solstice (in the southern hemisphere it is the summer solstice) which symbolizes the rebirth of the sun.
solstice literally means ‘sun stands still’, which is a moment in time to take a sacred pause and not be externally focused, but to focus within. this is about as close as the sun gets to going retrograde (the sun and moon typically never go retrograde) and as such it’s a very shamanistic time where deep journeys of self-inquiry and death/rebirth experiences are possible. from today (12/21) through 12/24 we are supported in standing still and taking stock of our inner and outer lives. it’s a great time to find your center and stay there for a while- rather than get caught up in external focus, holiday shopping, holiday parties and the like.
in addition to the powerful solstice energies, today venus stations retrograde at the last degree of capricorn- a very important degree of completion, culmination, endings and release. with two bodies ‘standing still’ (the sun and venus), we have major opportunities for reflection, introspection, retreat, review and revision of ourselves, our path, our egos, our relationships, our finances and self-worth are heading our way!
with both bodies in capricorn- we are best advised to look at structures, traditions, expectations and obligations in our lives so that we can question if they work for us today or if they are too limiting in terms of where we are going. just because something is familiar does not mean it is best for us! opportunities to push past limitations and restrictions in our lives (internal and external) are present right now. be sure to make use of them!
starting on 12/24 when the sun begins to move again, we are heading into some very potent astrology that commences on christmas day and moves through the first week of january. this is the uranus/pluto energy that takes us into breakdown/breakthrough territory. shake ups and wake up calls are the focus- but so is liberation and freedom from the oppression of the past! for more information on where this plays out in your chart check the weekly horoscopes for this week and next week (i will have next week’s up by monday morning)- and be sure to read for sun sign and rising sign.
