the first of 7 uranus/pluto squares occurs this sunday, june 24th, exact at 1:14am PDT. over the next 3 years these heavy hitter planets will make 7 exact squares due to their retrograde and direct stations. the list of these dates is below and although their energy is particularly potent on these days the entire next 3 years are going to be markedly uranian and plutonian in nature. with the initiation of this transit occuring this weekend it would wise to play close attention to what is up for you in your life (personally and collectively) right now as it will provide insight into the changes/transformations/deaths and rebirths to come.
uranus first entered aries in the end of may 2010 but then he went retrograde back into pisces to finish up his 7 year journey there. on march 11th, 2011 uranus moved back into aries for good- the exact day that the japanese tsunami and ensuing nuclear disaster hit. uranus is one of the transpersonal planets (neptune and pluto are the other two) and when he changes sign his energy can be felt collectively as well as personally. with uranus moving from the last degree of the last sign of the zodiac (pisces) to the first degree of the first sign (aries) we have a new cycle of uranus commencing- something that only happens once every 84 or so years. uranus is the great awakener, the rebel and the revolutionary. his nature is changeable, erratic, activating and electric. during uranus transits the only thing you can count on is change! with uranus in aries we have an awakening of the collective anger and rage- as can be seen in the occupy movements springing up around the world. uranus in aries is waking up our collective and personal needs to take a stand, say no, express anger and create boundaries. aries is a sign that is focused on his own needs and self-preservation. the electric energy in the atmosphere is palpable- and you can thank uranus in aries for that.
pluto first entered capricorn back in january of 2008, but mid-year he returned to sagittarius to finish up his 16 year journey there. towards the end of november 2008 he officially moved back into capricorn where he will stay until 2024. pluto is the lord of the underworld and his sole purpose is to expose what is toxic and what lies in the shadow. his focus is on our use of power and during our evolutionary process we often experience the extremes of pluto- victimization/having our power taken from us AND taking power from others, manipulating others and needing to be in control- before we can find a healthy relationship of Self-centered empowerment coming from within. with pluto in capricorn the shadow and underworldly energies being exposed relate to patriarchal culture, big business, governments, corporations, structures, foundations and obligations/commitments in our lives. pluto is forcing us to look at what lies beneath the surface of situations/relationships/structures personally, politically and collectively. what we see is not pretty but it has to be addressed, purged, eliminated and/or transformed before new life can take hold. pluto is the roto rooter of the zodiac- he comes in and lets you know where the crap has gotten stuck and he forces you to RELEASE IT. during pluto transits we need to know that some aspect of life has to die and that on some level (of the ego) we are not fully in control. pluto requires that we tap into Divine Will and surrender the ego’s will- otherwise we will be fighting something Higher than ourselves to be in control, and we know who’s going to win that fight, don’t we? right now the power and intensity that lies beneath the surface of things is POTENT and we can thank pluto for that.
with uranus square pluto we have quite the fiesty match up. the great awakener goes head to head with the lord of the underworld. the impulse to change, assert the self and fight is just as potent as the impulse to control, transform, die and be reborn. some astrologers are seeing this dynamic transit as the 99% versus the 1%. i tend to look at things on an individual spiritual/psychological level- so from a more personal perspective there are things in our life that MUST die and there are aspects of life that MUST change and there is no point in fighting it over the next 3 years because it’s going to happen with or without your consent and cooperation. a mantra for the uranus/pluto years ahead is ‘breakdowns precede breakthroughs’- so wherever you see breakdowns in your life or in the world around you know that this is the necessary first step that has to happen before you can get to the breakthrough phase. a lot of clients and friends in my life are going through REALLY intense times. some people have every aspect of life seemingly falling apart before their very eyes! i try to help my clients see that what is occurring is happening for a reason- and very often the things that are up for them right now are things they should have dealt with years ago and only now are being forced to do so after having had many opportunities to complete/deal with things previously. the point of this awareness is not to go into victimization or get stuck in a woe-is-me mindset- the point is to see clearly what the lesson is and then get on board with learning it, mastering it and moving on.
people who have planets or placements between 8-15 degrees of cardinal signs (aries, cancer, libra and capricorn) are really going to be feeling this upcoming transit. incidentally the USA’s sun is right smack in the middle of all this- so we americans will definitely be feeling it as a nation. for everyone though, this transit is a period of radical revolution and change, directly related to the revolution and change of the 60’s- which is the last time uranus and pluto made an aspect.
so here we go- entering the portal of uranus and pluto for the first time this sunday (on my birthday!). there’s no looking back now!
