we are in the eclipse portal, something that happens twice a year when the new and full moons align with the nodes of the moon. usually these happen in pairs with a solar eclipse followed by a lunar eclipse (or vice versa), which is the case next month. sometimes they come in threes but this is less common (the last time this happened was the summer of 2009 and the next time it will happen is late spring of 2013). the upcoming eclipse cycle consists of one total solar eclipse and one prenumbral lunar eclipse- making for some potent holiday energy (the eclipses bookend thanksgiving in the US) and bringing us to the close of 2012 in dramatic fashion!
eclipses are major times of transformation and change: they essentially bring us amped up new and full moons. new moons are typically times of new beginnings, new chapters being written, seeds being planted. full moons are typically times of endings, culmination and/or crisis- depending on what is or is not being looked at in the Unconscious, as the sun precisely opposite the moon illuminates the Unconscious and brings things to Light. when you have eclipses involved with the lunations it is hard to differentiate between endings and beginnings- they tend to happen at the same time or one directly precedes the other. eclipses are massive portals for evolution- they quickly take us from point A to point B. depending on how attached we are to the past and to the ways things used to be will determine if we find the eclipse energy exciting and liberating or anxiety-producing and fear-inducing. the Universe uses eclipses to jump start our growth, but sometimes our growth requires a death first, so eclipses can be times of lettings things/people/the past pass out of our lives to make space for new things/people/the future to come in.
this coming eclipse portal consists of two eclipses activating two pairs of signs astrologically. the first is a total solar eclipse (at the time of the new moon) in scorpio exact on november 13th at 2:08pm PDT. the second is a prenumbral lunar eclipse (at the time of the full moon) in gemini exact on november 28th at 6:46am PDT. because the nodes recently moved into scorpio and taurus this solar eclipse in scorpio is the first in this pair of signs, so we can consider this coming month to be a massive initiation into our scorpio lessons and growth opportunities. since the planet of mastery and karma (saturn) is now in scorpio, where he will stay for the next 2 1/2 years, and the north node of evolution and growth is there for the next year and a half- this eclipse jump starts our path of mastery, our need for karmic clearing and points a clear way towards our path of evolution and growth. if we don’t know what needs to happen in the scorpio area of our chart- the eclipse will surely bring things to Light!
what is so powerful about this solar eclipse is that it is TOTAL. total eclipses pack more of a punch. it is commonly thought that the places most impacted by the eclipse are the places the eclipse is visible: this one will be visible in australia, new zealand and the south pacific and the shadow path will end in chile. to add to the potency of this eclipse the sun/moon conjunction is conjunct the north node in scorpio and it activates the uranus/pluto square (sesquiquadrate uranus, semisquare pluto). with the north node pointing to where our evolution and growth is, this eclipse can be a major wake up call to where we need to grow. the north node is where our growth is but it is that place we have not mastered yet- so it can feel like being pushed out of the nest and learning to fly while falling down. with uranus/pluto activated by this lunation the massive energies of change and evolution, by means of breakdowns and breakthroughs, are brought into the eclipse portal. if you have placements or planets at 22 scorpio (where the eclipse is) or 22 taurus, leo and aquarius you will feel this eclipse most powerfully!
the lunar eclipse on november 28th is not a total eclipse and it is not even a partial eclipse- it is a prenumbral eclipse. scientists consider this the least powerful and the least exciting as you don’t really see much when you are observing it. yet this eclipse has quite the intense astrology chart- so from an astrological perspective it is still very powerful! the lunar eclipse is at 7 gemini and it is conjunct black moon lilith. the Dark Goddess features prominently in this chart and her underworldly shadow realms are activated. a very dynamic aspect called a yod or finger of God shows up this chart. venus is conjunct saturn in scorpio and they both sextile mars conjunct pluto in capricorn. with the Divine Lovers conjunct heavy hitter planets that are in MUTUAL RECEPTION (saturn is in pluto’s sign and pluto is in saturn’s sign) the depths, the Soul and the shadow are readily accessed. all four of these planets point to the moon/black moon lilith conjunction which is where the finger of God is pointing. with a yod there are planets that are in harmony (venus, mars, saturn and pluto) and they point to something that is in tension with them. the airy gemini realms are at odds with the watery scorpio and earthy capricorn energies. where scorpio and capricorn are deep, controlling and possessive- gemini is Light, carefree and non-committal. the quincunx aspect of the moon to saturn and pluto is pretty intense- and if we find ourselves trying to be Light and airy fairy about things without acknowledging the shadow and understanding that there are larger forces at play- this lunar eclipse can be a poignant reminder. if you have placements at or near 7 degrees of gemini, virgo, sagittarius and pisces you are in the line of fire of this eclipse! and in terms of visibility- this eclipse is viewable in hawaii, alaska, australia and east asia.
