we are entering into some powerful astrology in the coming weeks and months. tomorrow (saturday december 7th) mars moves into libra, where he will stay for an extended period of time (until july 25th) due to his retrograde journey from march 1st through may 19th of 2014. with mars in this sign for just under 8 months we have a lot of focus, energy and activity in the realm of relationships, one of the many things libra governs.
mars in libra is an interesting placement as mars rules aries and libra is the sign opposite over aries. when mars is in his opposite sign he said to be in his detriment, meaning it is harder for mars to express his natural mars energy in this sign. the reason for this is libra seeks peace and harmony, while mars is the warrior, will and drive. mars wants to take action and deal with things head on, while libra wants everyone to get along and will often avoid confrontation simply to keep the peace and not rock the boat. the positive use of mars in libra is to deal with and address relationship imbalances, yet the shadow side is having issues with asserting the self, setting boundaries and dealing with things head on.
well to add to this martian mix we have a Grand Cross forming in the sky that will last until the end of june! this grand cross involves mars in libra, jupiter in cancer, uranus in aries and pluto in capricorn. the uranus/pluto square is a dynamic transit of transformation and change that spans from 2012-2015. with jupiter involved the uranus/pluto square because a T-square that lasts for 9 months (from september 2013 to april of next year). jupiter tends to throw more fuel on the fire- so the already hot astrology of uranus/pluto gets expanded and perhaps excessive when jupiter is involved. now that mars is in libra heading towards his first activation of jupiter/uranus/pluto (exact december 25th through january 8th) we have the planet that tends to motivate or activate things getting into the mix. needless to say, it should be an interesting christmas and new year season!
Grand Crosses bring massive opportunities with them. essentially all four bodies involved are in tense aspect to each other and they generate friction and motivate us to address things, deal with things, grow and evolve. with mars in libra being the most personal planet involved we are likely to find that the area where mars is transiting in our chart is the major arena of growth, death or rebirth. addressing issues of will, drive, anger and aggression can be key. in addition, with mars in libra we can also be focusing on relationships and the balance (or imbalance) of things in our lives.
to add to this there is a majorly powerful Grand Cross new moon in capricorn on new year’s day. it is very rare to have a new moon occur on the new year, it only happens once every 19 years (the last one was in 1995, the next is in 2033). from a cosmic perspective, it is most aligned with the forces of nature to set intentions, plant seeds (and make new year’s resolutions) on a new moon. from the new moon to the full moon there is a waxing, growing energy that supports manifestation, whereas the full moon to the dark moon there is a waning, dissipating energy that supports releasing and letting go. this year we have a dark moon on new year’s eve and a new moon on new years day (exact at 3:14am PST)- which is very auspicious! it really is a brand new start to the year when a new moon aligns with the new year- so be sure you take advantage of this powerful energy and take time to honor what you are leaving behind in 2013, what you are taking forward with you into the new year and what you are birthing that is new!
